The outdoor condenser unit sits on a pad beside the house and holds the compressor and condenser coil, which together shed heat from the refrigerant running through the system. Inside, the air handler or furnace-and-coil assembly mounts in a utility space, basement, or attic and pulls warm air in before pushing cooled air back through the home.
